Ruined miner's hut, Welshtown, New Zealand
7 September 2022
Video - Level ◆◆◆
In the hills very close to my home are a lot of relics from the old gold mining days. Broken stone buildings, deep mine shafts and lots of tailings - I love exploring these areas and trying to imagine what it was like to live there.
This ruined miner's hut is in abandoned area called Welshtown. It's a beautiful location, but an incredibly harsh environment. Very, very dry in summer and freezing cold in winter. The miner's and their families must have been tough.
In this lesson paint a summer sky, snowy mountains, a dry grassy meadow, trees and a stone hut. Lots of little parts that you can really get your teeth into!
Happy painting!
