Bluebell forest
9 April 2026
Step-by-Step - Level ◆◆◆
There's something about bluebells — that hazy, glowing carpet of purple-blue that appears for just a few weeks each spring, always in the kind of light that makes you want to stand very still.
This week's lesson is a spring woodland scene: a bluebell forest, with trees emerging from a soft, luminous background and a foreground full of that dreamy colour. It's the kind of painting that looks complex but is built in simple layers.
And I'm also going to show you how to paint bluebells without painting a single bluebell — using splattering and a spritz bottle to create something that looks wild and free rather than stiff and patterned.
This one is deeply satisfying to paint.
Happy painting!
