Wolhuter Hut

Perhaps you know that I've recently returned from a trip to the Kruger National Park in South Africa. Part of the story of my growing up, it's where we used to spend our family holidays when I was a child.
The park was established in 1898 and it's first warden appointed the ranger Harry Wolhuter. His daring deeds were some of the many adventure stories we were told in primary school. In one famous story he single handedly killed a lion that attacked him with a tiny knife. I saw the lion skin the other day - it's huge and the knife - it's tiny! The skin has just 2 little puncture wounds from the knife near the heart. Daring indeed.
This little rondavel (round hut) in the Pretoriuskop camp is named after Wolhuter. The rondavel was one of the original tourist huts from the 1930s. It is so rustic, cute and oddly misshapen. Perfect for sketching.
Happy painting!
