sardinian coastal tower

Historic coastal tower, Sardinia
Historic coastal tower, Sardinia

I'm on holiday in Sardinia at the moment, enjoying swimming in the sea and sketching seascapes.

All along the coast of Sardinia are these historic watch towers. They were to protect the inhabitants from invading pirates and the idea was that you could see one tower from another, forming a chain around the coast. They make wonderful sketching subjects, because each one is different, and I'm fascinated by them.

This particular one is on a little peninsula with a beach on each side. Apparently the one beach was for the men and the other for the ladies. Another interesting piece of history :-)
