Californian poppies in watercolour
Californian poppies in watercolour

The summer vibes continue! This time with Californian poppies.

These ones are a reminder of summers in New Zealand, where these poppies grow as a riot of colour along our stoney lakeshore. I worked from a photo I'd taken that had hundreds of poppies, scrolling around and hand picking a few that I wanted in this painting.

I'm so enjoying this series. I hope you are too!

I've added this one and the red poppies and chicory in a mini shop update today - https://www.walden.co.nz/watercolours_for_sale_1.htm

I'll be closing my shop on 28 July for summer holidays, so now's a good time to pop over and have a look.

summer flowers & an old fence post

There's something irresistibly paintable about a weathered fence post half-swallowed by summer wildflowers. It's the contrast that does it — rough, sun-bleached wood against the soft, fleeting delic...
