🍂 Watercolour Tutorial: Painting Autumn Mushrooms 🍂

It’s mushroom season, and I couldn’t be happier! These delicate fungi are known as beautiful bonnet mushrooms — though honestly, they didn’t need the “beautiful” added.

Painting subjects from nature is wonderfully absorbing. When painting mushrooms, taking time to observe the fine details and subtle colour shifts makes all the difference. We’ll look closely at the caps and stems, then mix the earthy autumn tones — warm browns, soft golds and gentle greys — to bring them to life with watercolour.

In this lesson, I’ll also share my favourite technique for painting fine lines on mushroom caps, perfect for capturing their delicate texture and structure.

If you love painting seasonal subjects and sketching outdoors, this is the perfect project to celebrate autumn’s earthy beauty.
