When traveling I'm always taking photos of windows and doors. There are so many different ones with lovely features to paint - old and rustic, new and shiny, flower boxes, shutters, stonework or bricks. And shadows! I'm always looking for lovely light that creates interesting shadows.
If you love adding character and charm to your watercolour paintings, this tutorial is a real treat. We paint an old window with weathered, turquoise shutters, a window box overflowing with loose, lively geraniums, and—best of all—those wonderful cast shadows that make everything feel three-dimensional.
In this step-by-step video lesson, I break down exactly how to create textured shutters, shiny window glass, simplified but recognisable flowers, and luminous shadows that are far from flat grey.
